All your bug-culture, information, and the wonderful pictures are very interesting! There is one bug in particular I'd like to see featured. I grew up on the coastal area of CA, just S of S.F. , town of Montara. We used to find these things we called "potato bugs". They are a creamy tan color with a big potato-shaped abdomen that is striped w black. It looks like a cricket on steroids! Always found in the dirt, or under rocks - a little boys favorite place to play & explore, right? If you can find anything about these things, I'd appreciate the info. Thanks!

Zeo, you're referring to the Jerusalem cricket, aka potato bug. See http://ucanr.edu/blogs/blogcore/postdetail.cfm?postnum=8785
